The New National Museum

Recently opened, the new National Museum is the largest museum in the Nordics and exhibits Norway’s largest collection of art, architecture and design with a permanent exhibition of about 6,500 objects. Additionally, Norwegian artist Edvard Munch’s most famous paintings, including The Scream (1893) and Madonna (1894) can also be seen here.

The Royal Palace

At one end of Karl Johans gate, the Royal Palace is a handsome 1849 neoclassical-style pile that is home to HM King Harald V and HM Queen Sonja. Open to the public from late June to mid August, there are guided tours, but outside of that, we recommend a stroll through Royal Palace Park with its majestic trees, ponds and statues and also to watch the changing of the guards which takes place daily at 1:30pm

Astrup Fearnley Museum

Technically located in the Tjuvholmen neighbourhood, the Astrup Fearnley Museum is a privately owned contemporary art gallery designed by renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano. There are six temporary exhibitions a year with a focus on international contemporary artists including Jeff Koon, Cindy Sherman, and Olafur Eliasson among others.

Nobel Peace Center

Located in an old train station building from 1872 in the heart of Oslo, the Nobel Peace Center is a one-of-a-kind museum about the Nobel Peace Prize. Here, you can find permanent installations that tell the story of Alfred Nobel and the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates alongside exhibits, films, and interactive installations.

Akershus Festning

Dating from 1299, Akershus Fortress is a medieval castle that was built to protect and provide a residence for the Norwegian Royal Family. Located on the waterfront, it is a great place to discover Oslo’s history via guided tours in the summer and is also a popular venue for major events, including concerts, public holiday celebrations, and ceremonies.
